Rodrigue
4:13pm February 23rd, 2009Rodrigue had no idea this would happen. A bicycle running at full speed from tall hill rums into his small leg, splitting his ligament and racking through his tibia bone. The pain was immeasurable. Rodrigue’s mother, a widow and mother of three was speechless. First because her son was hurting and groaning in agony, and second
because she did not have a penny to take the child to hospital. Rodrigue’s mother, upon remembering that his son was in the Africa mission Alliance sponsorship program rushed to AMA offices for help. Rita, AMA’s child sponsorship director was readying herself to leave for another home visit when the mother arrived panting and speechless. They both rushed to the nearby taxi park and rented a taxi to rush Rodrigue to hospital.
When they arrived at the hospital, the doctors did all kinds of examinations and discovered something everyone did not want to hear. Rodrigue was suffering from more than a broken leg. First, the doctors noticed difficulties in Rodrigue’s breathing which his mother said he had had long before the accident. He also had a chronic cough that her mother never paid attention to. Upon further diagnosis, the doctors discovered that Rodrigue had a heart problem and was to be transferred to a bigger hospital as soon as his leg healed. Her mother did not want to hear this especially knowing that she could not afford the cost. Rita calmed her down and reminded her that Rodrigue was in the hands of Africa mission Alliance and that Africa mission Alliance would pay for all the bills.
Rodrigue’s heart did not wait for the leg to heal. A week later his breathing became even more difficult and the doctors had to put him on oxygen. Rodrigue was in hospital from February to December of 2008. Right before Christmas, Rodrigue was discharged from hospital. When he attended the Africa mission Alliance Christmas party for the sponsored children he was on crutches. Since then he has been healing slowly and taking his heart medicine everyday.
Rodrigue is now in primary two at Africa Mission Alliance’s Faith Preparatory Academy. Africa Mission Alliance is helping to pay for his medicine and to assist the family with some food until Rodrigue is completely healed.
When Rodrigue’s mother spoke with Rita this last week she was crying tears of appreciation. “I don’t know what would have happened to my son if I did not meet “good doers” like Africa Mission Alliance.”
On behalf of Rodrigue and his family, we would like to thank everyone who prayed, gave and supported them in any way.
